Charter Public
High School

Walk or Bike to Our New Educational Center

Imaging how your life will change for the better when our planned public high school dramatically expands the educational opportunities available to a wide range of people of all ages. Our Parks and Recreation Department, which has received National recognition for its service to Foster City, already offers a wide range of fun and rewarding classes, including arts and crafts, music and dancing, exercise and sports, and many others.

Imagine how our planned public high school will provide more academic educational opportunities that go beyond those offered by the Parks and Recreation Department. As an educational center, the school will include shared space for Adult Education, Community College and University courses. Currently, nearly all such classes are only available west of 101. Imagine what it will mean to you when these opportunities became available in Foster City within walking or biking distance (or a short drive) from your home.

Would you like to learn more about using your computer or just learn how to begin to use a computer? How about using that new digital camera and sending pictures to family members over the internet?  These are just a few of the many enticing classes offered through the Adult Education section of San Mateo Union High School District. Unfortunately, the nearest class is five miles away and on the other side of highway 101. Our Community Colleges offer many stimulating evening classes. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to attend an evening history or literature class in Foster City at our new educational center?

The City Council has set aside four acres of the Civic Center site for a public high school, conditional upon accepting a Business Plan for the project. Building our planned public high school provides our Council and Community with an extraordinary opportunity to provide education beyond the 8th grade east of highway 101.

By working together cooperatively, the Council and Community can take advantage of this opportunity to build an educational center that serves all residents and establish a public high school that offers a new educational choice that our young people need to succeed in today’s swiftly integrating global economy, while preparing all students for college, career and community.
