Meetings with City Council and City Staff

In the past few weeks, we met with City Council members and the City Staff to discuss the Charter Public High School on the 15-acre site. We have requested to be an integral part of the overall development of the 15-acre site and not be a stand alone project. The city's June 2006 survey revealed that 80% of respondents desired a high school on that site.

Awaiting City Council Decision

On September 25th and 27th, the City Council met in closed session to discuss the terms of a Charter Public High School on the 15-acre site. We await their decision.

Tuition-Free Education

As we talk to community members about our charter public high school, one question keeps coming up: “How much is the tuition?” The answer: FREE, because the new high school will be a public school and, like all public schools, it will not charge tuition.

Bravo! Your Voices Made a Real Difference!

Thanks to your emails and letters, Governor’s Schwarzenegger vetoed AB 2954. Governor Schwarzenegger's veto message.

From the California Charter Schools Association (September 28, 2006):

“Yesterday, the Governor vetoed AB 2954 by Assemblywoman Carol Liu. AB 2954 would have allowed authorizers to deny charter petitions for financial reasons and would have mandated charter schools to provide free and reduced price meal programs. The Association would like to thank every charter school supporter, leader, student and parent who sent in letters asking the Governor to veto the measure. Those letters made the Administration’s decision an easy one. Additionally, we would like to thank the Governor and his staff for keeping their strong commitment to charter schools in California.”
