All of us at the Foster City High School Foundation (FCHSF) send warm holiday wishes to you and your family. Thank you for your support and encouragement over the past year, which marked some historic milestones, including the unanimous decision by the Foster City Council to reserve four (4) acres of land within the vacant 15-acre site for a charter public high school. This reservation of land is contingent upon the City Council’s approval of the FCHSF’s Business Plan due by January 31, 2007.
The Foundation has partnered with the San Diego-based High Tech High (HTH) organization (www.hightechhigh.org) that will operate the charter public high school planned for Foster City. HTH currently operates High Tech High Bayshore in Redwood City and other charter high schools in California.
Since October, the FCHSF and HTH have been in negotiations with the City of Foster City. Key aspects of these discussions relate to the development of our business plan, especially the timing and process of planning and building the school in relation to the development of the rest of the 15-acre site. These negotiations also will also include the plans for the financing of the operation and maintenance of the school.
The California Department of Education has selected the Foster City High School Foundation to receive a $405,000 Charter School Startup Grant, pending the availability of funds and depending on the date when our school opens.

We're thrilled to have received this recognition of our efforts to bring a Charter Public High School to our community.
The above headline appeared in the San Mateo Daily News on Wednesday, December 6, 2006. The following quotes come from the accompanying article by Will Oremus.
“A group that wants to bring a charter high school to Foster City is working with High Tech High on a plan that could . . . save the San Mateo Union High School District the cost of educating as many as 500 students — or about $4.5 million a year — without cutting into its revenues.”
“. . . High Tech High is the only group of schools that has been chartered directly by the State Board of Education, meaning that it doesn’t have to . . . pull any resources from the local district school.”
